Mexico's loan delinquency, lender by lender

In June 2026, 2.90% of Mexican banks' payroll loans were delinquent, against 5.18% of personal loans and 3.55% of credit-card balances. Below is the official figure for every bank, SOFOM E.R. and SOFIPO, largest book first.

Latinometrics

Charged on payday vs not

A payroll loan is charged on payday: the bank deducts the installment automatically from the salary the employer deposits. Personal loans and credit cards are not charged on payday. Across Mexico's banks, the payroll book has the lowest delinquency rate (IMOR, the share of the book CNBV classes as impaired) of the three.

Product IMOR (%) Book (MXN bn) Rate on new loans (%)
Payroll loans (nómina)Charged on payday 2.90 457 26.93
Personal loansNot charged on payday 5.18 312 39.45
Credit cardsNot charged on payday 3.55 735

Borrower mix explains part of the gap: personal-loan borrowers are priced as riskier from the start (39.45% average rate on new loans vs 26.93% for payroll loans), so not all of the difference comes from when the loan is charged.

Banks (Banca Múltiple), June 2026. IMOR and book: CNBV. Rate on new loans: balance-weighted average across banks, a Latinometrics calculation from CNBV's consumer-credit data; not calculated for credit cards.

Source: CNBV, Boletín Estadístico Banca Múltiple, June 2026. Consumer book is the bank's total consumer book as CNBV reports it (all consumer products, including auto and other loans), not the sum of the three shown. A bank's book includes the SOFOM E.R. it consolidates. A dash (—) means the bank has no book in that product, or CNBV reports the ratio as not quantifiable (n.c.).

SOFOM E.R.: regulated non-bank lenders

Across all their lending, SOFOM E.R. had an IMOR of 2.19% in June 2026. These are the 17 with consumer loans, largest consumer book first, with delinquency by product.

A dash (—) means CNBV reports zero, which covers both a SOFOM with no book in that product and one with none of it late. † Consolidates with a bank: its book is also inside the parent bank's row in the bank table above.

SOFIPOs: popular savings and loan companies

SOFIPOs report no split by product, so this is each one's IMOR on its whole loan book: the 32 with a loan book that reported to CNBV on time for June 2026, largest book first.
