Checo Perez's Salary Through His Formula 1 Career
Checo Perez's salary peaked in 2022, reaching $10M-$20M next year alone.
How can we tell the story of Checo Perez? He gives Mexicans hope to excel on the world stage. A rare feat only a few have been able to achieve in the country’s history. Frida Kahlo, Julio Cesar Chavez, and Guillermo del Toro come to mind. These figures have become not only national heroes, but also global icons in their fields.
Checo Perez had his Frida Kahlo moment earlier this year when he won the F1 Monaco Grand Prix. One of the most prestigious races, Monaco sees the world’s elite dock their yachts to the tiny country of 40,000 people to witness the best car drivers in the world. Checo, who races for Red Bull, perhaps shone a bit too bright that night when he took the podium and the 4th victory of his career. As the only Latin American currently in Formula 1, it’s safe to say that most fans from across the region were happy for him that day.
Formula 1 is a team sport, with each team consisting of two drivers. Red Bull’s team also includes Max Verstappen, who ended this season as the World Champion for the second straight year. He did so with some drama — Max had long secured his overall first place and had the opportunity to cede 2nd to Checo by letting Checo pass him in a race, but refused to do so. Checo ended the season in 3rd place.
For all this, Checo was instrumental in Max’s victory last year by blocking off long-time champ and rival Lewis Hamilton during a race. Nevertheless, even if Max is not appreciating Checo, Red Bull is; they’ve extended his contract for another two years. With salary and bonus, he will receive more than $10-$20M next year alone.
